If your startup is interested in hiring a PR or marketing firm, you may have heard that using an RFP, a request for proposal, is the best way to narrow down your options.

Swyft, a PR and digital marketing firm in Austin, advises early stage tech startups against using an RFP. They suggest that it’s far better to wait until you have grown as an organization, closed several rounds of VC funding and have a robust marketing and communications internal team in place.

Nevertheless, here are some pros and cons to consider before you commit to using an RFP to find your next startup PR firm.
