Shippo

Earlier this year, San Francisco-based startup Shippo reached unicorn status with a $50 million Series E funding round. To continue its momentum and keep up with its fast-growing valuation, Shippo has recently opened its first Austin office located on Austin’s east side. Although many of Shippo’s employees continue to work remotely, the office is open to its engineering staff and an additional 40 employees from its product, sales, and customer success departments.

According to Built in Austin, Shippo has experienced impressive growth in its personnel. This year, the startup has seen its global headcount double to 300 people and hopes to double the size to 600 employees by next year. As Shippo continues to think progressively, the startup hopes to have around 100 Austin employees within the next coming year. Yasser Farra, Shippo’s first Austin employee, explains that that startup culture will continue to be important in the workplace. Shippo’s employees love its collaborative culture and take pride in having responsibility and autonomy in the company.

Shipshape

According to Austin Inno, Shipshape, an Austin-based technology company, secured a space in Birmingham, Alabama, as an anchor tenant. In addition to having 30 to 40 employees in the company’s new office, this 12,000 square-foot space will house the company’s core network operations and home assistance. Although the office won’t be available for use until the upcoming year, the CEO of Shipspace, Alexander Linn, is already in the process of hiring 30 employees that’ll move into the space.

Founded in 2020, Shipshape provides homes with time-saving and money-saving solutions by combining whole-home data and connecting homeowners to service providers. In other words, this company uses smart home software that integrates with home maintenance systems. Although the company is based in Austin, a few executives will be located in its Birmingham office, and even Linn will be looking into spending at least 50 percent of his time in Birmingham.

BrainCheck

Houston-based startup BrainCheck has recently raised a $10 million Series B funding round. Announced in Austin Inno, the leading investors were Austin-based Next Coast Ventures and S3 Ventures. True Wealth Ventures, Tensility Venture Partners and Leawood, and Nueterra Capital also contributed.

Founded in 2015, BrainCheck’s reimbursable digital cognitive health platform helps doctors sport cognitive impairments in patients. The company’s technology gives patients and providers information that helps track memory, attention, or functional changes. With its new funding, BrainCheck will use it to help further evolve its cognitive health screening technology.

Although the company continues to see employment growth across its Austin and Houston locations, BrainCheck’s new funding will help increase headcount in software development, user experience design, sales, and marketing departments.

Procore Technologies

Founded in 2002, Procore Technologies, a California-based startup, provides construction technology and management software. According to Silicon Hills, the company recently closed an acquisition with Levelsel, a fintech construction company, for $500 million. Tooey Courtemanche, CEO and president of Procore, explains that with Levelset’s acquisition, the company will be able to “easily navigate the complex compresses that come with securing lien rights and payments.” Although based in California, Procore has a heavy influence in Austin, with around 80 employees in its Brazos and 9th Street location.
