As remote working continues to be the new normal amongst companies, many tech workers expect to resume a fully remote or hybrid workplace in 2021, according to Austin Inno. In Austin specifically, two companies, QuinStreet and One Drop, are thriving off of remote working and are continuing to find strategies and tactics to make remote working seem as normal as possible, especially when it comes to hiring and onboarding
QuinStreet runs virtual marketplaces that match homeowners and contractors based on what type of professional the homeowner needs. For new hires to feel welcomed and engaged in a remote setting, QuinStreet has created methods to ensure everyone feels comfortable in their workplace. These methods include ensuring all employees have the necessary equipment and tools and enforcing the “white glove” approach, making it easier for employees to meet and conversate.
Healthtech platform One Drop is an AI-driven startup designed to help people with health conditions. Senior Vice President of People Ops and Talent Miraque Hicks explains that most of their open positions are accessible to remote workers. As a result of its workplace changing to fully remote, many of what One Drop would usually do in-person has shifted to online, such as new hire happy hours and department info sessions. Although switching to remote working can make people feel antisocial, One Drop has done an excellent job of incorporating its usual events to keep its employees engaged and welcomed.
